How can I best prepare for a healthy pregnancy?

One of Dr. Caruso’s greatest joys is seeing a couple through conception, pregnancy, and delivery of a healthy child. He is honored to consult with you in preparation for a healthy pregnancy either before or after conception.

The key to a healthy pregnancy is maximizing a healthy lifestyle. Many common pregnancy complications can be avoided by nurturing healthy habits, even before you conceive.

Healthy habits that you may incorporate before and after you conceive are:

  • Eating well
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Taking vitamins
  • Quitting smoking
  • Avoiding or limiting alcohol
  • Limiting caffeine
  • Exercising
  • Sleeping 8-10 hours

What does healthy pregnancy care entail?

In the prenatal stage of your pregnancy, it is important that your health and the health of your baby is monitored closely in order to avoid or better manage common pregnancy complications like:

What does a prenatal visit look like?

Your first prenatal visit at about 8-10 weeks will be the most comprehensive of all your visits. It will include time with Dr. Caruso wherein he collects information about your health and about your pregnancy.

Your visit will include:

  • Health history
  • Weight and vital signs
  • Physical exam
  • Urine test
  • Lab work
  • Ultrasound

Your visits take place every four weeks until about 28 weeks gestation, then every two weeks until delivery.

Your comprehensive pregnancy care will also include:

  • An additional ultrasound
  • Glucose tolerance test
  • Rh factor test
  • Genetic testing, if desired
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Delivery and postpartum care education
